Restrictions Update 2-100.jpg

The last two years have been difficult. At the beginning of 2021, the Alberta Esports Association stated that we would be taking all events online through 2021 and asked our communities to do the same. It is now 2022, and we have some new regulation updates.

As of March 1st, the Government of Alberta is removing restrictions on in-person gatherings. While everyone is understandably excited to see each other as soon as they can, we want to ensure that the events we host are safe for all participants. For that reason, we have taken the time to study the current health situation once more.

We are back to supporting in-person events, as long as they still prioritize the health and safety of all participants. For all AESA and AESA-affiliated events, the following expectations are in place:

  • Masks AESA is supporting a 100% Mask Mandate, which means in order for us to support an event, they will require all participants and volunteers to wear a mask at all times.

  • Vaccinations We understand that enforcing any kind of vaccination passport is quite difficult after the provincial changes. For this reason we would like to recommend all attendees be vaccinated, but enforcement is up to the community.

  • Sanitation Please make sure things are kept clean and sanitization is available to attendees. Lending equipment is still discouraged.

  • Food Food is still recommended to be eaten outside of the venue.

  • Capacity Please follow AHS regulations, and keep the 6ft distance as best as allowed in the space.

  • General Illness People who exhibit symptoms will be asked to leave.

  • Setups Please continue to try and distance setups and seating, where space allows.

  • Spectators It is highly recommended that spectators are registered at the door to keep track of numbers, spectating in general is only encouraged when space allows.

We are very excited to welcome back our gaming communities in-person as safely as we can. Nothing can beat the enjoyment of weeklies, monthlies, and tournaments. Using these updated regulations, we hope to return to an event near you very soon.

Please note that these regulations are subject to change based on the evolving COVID-19 situation in Alberta. Should the Alberta Esports Association feel it is no longer safe to keep the regulations as-is, or if the provincial government implement changes that override the update above, a corrected regulation guide will be posted.
