Alberta Scholastic Esports League
What is the ASEL?
Following the success of the inaugural Alberta Esports Championship in May 2024, a subcommittee of educators from across the province was formed to establish the nature and structure of an interscholastic esports competition network.
The result - the Alberta Scholastic Esports League (ASEL) - will emphasize the values of teamwork and sportsmanship amongst all competitors. The league offers students a blend of online competitive opportunities and regional, in-person play.
Through this dual-pronged approach, we will promote a competitive spirit for esports – one that fosters friendly rivalries amongst schools and regions – that will ultimately propel Alberta to the forefront of national competition.

Alberta junior high and high schools can register students ages 10-18 for events. Students may be registered at an accredited Alberta learning institution and meet the age requirement to compete. Exceptions may be granted in special circumstances.

The majority of ASEL events take place online. Students and their teacher-coaches can participate in the competitions online using their own devices and network connections. In-person events are hosted once a semester in each of the six major Alberta school regions. These venues change from event to event and will be announced for each event when registration opens.
